Exploring aspects about yourself, your values, and your preferences will guide you to select the appropriate major. Internships

A For-Credit Internship can be obtained by all students once they have earned 60 credit hours. In order to receive academic credit, the student MUST complete the internship application, follow all guidelines and procedures, and obtain all signatures by the deadlines indicated below. Credit will not be awarded to students who did not follow and complete the application process. FRESHMAN YEAR

  • Learn about yourself, your interests, and skills through online/printed resources
  • Meet the Career and Internship Services staff
  • Take online assessments
  • Identify majors that relate to your interests and abilities
  • Identify summer experiences that coordinate with your major

 

SOPHOMORE YEAR

  • Create a resume
  • Join an on-campus, pre-professional organization
  • Take several online career assessments
  • Attend career exploration workshops
  • Identify a professional in your field to conduct an informal interview
  • Research any job shadowing/volunteer opportunities
  • Plan early for summer work opportunities or externships available in your major


JUNIOR YEAR

  • Seek out leadership opportunities in student organizations
  • Update your resume
  • Attend interview workshops in preparation for internship interviews
  • Attend career fairs to research internship and future job possibilities
  • Research graduate and professional schools
  • Attend graduate school fairs to make contact with programs
  • Finalize summer experience/internship plans that relate to your major


SENIOR YEAR


  • Attend Senior class meeting in August
  • Attend skill-building workshops available throughout the year
  • Polish your resume and cover letters
  • Sign up for mock interviews with a member of the C&IS staff
  • Attend career fairs in the geographical location you plan to live (if possible)
  • Apply to graduate/professional schools, meeting all deadlines
  • Research potential employers and job possibilities online or with a member of the C&IS team
  • Pursue any networking contacts through friends, family, professors, etc.
  • Follow through on all opportunities - consider taking a post-graduate internship
